Much more worrying than the protecting warming

Nasa warns solar flares from 'huge space storm' will cause devastation

"Senior space agency scientists believe the Earth will be hit with unprecedented levels of magnetic energy from solar flares after the Sun wakes “from a deep slumber” sometime around 2013, The Daily Telegraph can disclose.

In a new warning, Nasa said the super storm would hit like “a bolt of lightning” and could cause catastrophic consequences for the world’s health, emergency services and national security unless precautions are taken.

Scientists believe it could damage everything from emergency services’ systems, hospital equipment, banking systems and air traffic control devices, through to “everyday” items such as home computers, iPods and Sat Navs."

Thanks for the warning. Where can I get some radio tubes to replace those pesky transistors?

Last really big solar flare happened between august 27 and september 7 1859 (the Carrington event), causing the failure of telegraph systems all over Europe and North America. Aurorae were seen around the world, as far south as Venezuela and as far north as Santiago de Chile.

Here the link to the original Carrington's report.

Strong solar flares can happen at any moment of the solar cycle, not necessarily at or close to the peak.

As with all doomsday alarmisms, we also need to keep a dose of scepticism on this matter.

We must be very wary of the Alarmist Solar Sceptic, or *** for short. :p

I wonder what effect the reduction in evaporation, from the Gulf Oil slick, will have on water temperatures , resulting in more powerful hurricanes this year.

There is still evaporation, but it is aromatic hydrocarbons. No smoking.

actually its worse than that if you add in particulate mater in the atmosphere and con trails

remember my posts on global dimming
its making a big difference by keeping temps lower than they normally would be

also my posts on total crustal shift
the warming we are experiencing has contributed to nullifying this possibility

    cheers

not that Rapid global climate change is any saving grace but there are theories who's ramifications are effected by it

I see that you have resorted to the lowest form of communication. I can only think that your Prozac has not kicked in yet and so your frontal lobe inhibiting function is not working.
Have you found yourself running naked on the street lately?
    Increase the dose pronto.

For someone whose own brief presence in this forum is littered with unsolicited insults and personal attacks, I was expecting more resistance to such treatments when received from others.

Instead, suddenly such behaviour is "the lowest form of communication". Interesting...

Alarmist skeptic (I am taking the liberty to assume that you wanted to say skeptic...)...

How does that work? A skeptic that is also alarmist...

I can see the donkey there, but I am looking in entirely different direction...

    :)
