So what? When did Arlington become the only authorized place in the country to honor our dead? We also have a National Cemetery near March Air Base, here in California. Maybe a President could show up there now and then too, instead of just hanging around Arlington.

As I've heard said before, "some people would hate Obama for the toothpaste he uses, if they could find out what brand it is."

I thot you were referring to another of Obama's "Dan Quale" moments; "fallen heroes...in the audience here today", Hoyt. I don't see how it can be any more basic than I laid it out to a couple of pretty sharp (but, of course, wrong) guys. It's like religion, or something...the left needs corporations to be evil.
BTW, nobody was more against bailing out ANYTHING than I. Most I know on both sides felt the same way. The only pro-bailout were those listening to the government, scared and not seeing that we were going down the tubes anyway as soon as the REALLY big spenders got in office (Bush was a piker). Not very many people sit around and study macro what-ifs and if we didn't happen to be studied up, we could have ALL trusted these people in Washington. I had one liberal friend utter something like "Nobody needs to make more than $300,000." in reference to CEO pay. That caused some eye-rolls and he blushed. People are smarter than that. Bush, and then Obama, thot that we weren't. I don't know - Bush might have just been naive enuf to believe Paulsen but will end up a footnote relative to the president that will possibly reside over the collapse of the greatest country ever. Putin even called Obama and warned him not to do this but some will still blame Bush!

Excuse me? I think we should keep corporate taxes; I don't believe corporate taxes are 'destroying America.' And that somehow proves I believe corporations are evil?

What kind of sense does that make? You believe we should tax everything that's sold retail; does that mean you believe retailers and retail goods are evil?

At least with a consumer tax everybody gets taxed. Everybody consumes. With income tax and corporate tax too many people cheat. Illegals get paid in cash. No tax. Al Gore gets paid in carbon credit. How the hell do you tax that? And so on. yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwnnnnnnn.

whatever the type of tax its still going to some few shysters wallowing in the governments nether orifices, who do not deserve my money, didn't earn it and certainly are incapable of making any kind of beneficial decisions for the common man.

the only real tax we need is import duties, that and corporate tax on pollution, environmental degradation and sales of imported goods.

most sales tax should be abolished along with property tax, income tax and school tax. Pretty sure the public education system of the US ranks last among developed nations so its kinda hard to argue another ineffective tax as being justified
    property tax is a crock
do I or do I not actually own this piece of dirt under my house anyway

People cheat on consumer taxes, too. When's the last time you paid sales tax when you bought a shotgun or an outboard from a buddy?

Unless you're more of a stickler for detail than I am, when's the last time you bought a used boat or pickup--and told them them to be sure and put the full price on the bill of sale, so you could show it to the good folks down at the DMV and pay the correct sales tax?

I can't count the number of times I've built or repaired something for someone--and told them to just buy me whatever specialized tools I needed to get the job done, and we'd call it even. Should have been some sort of tax in there paid by someone, I'm sure.

Artic ice thikness has increased 25% since May 2008, as per U.S. Navy PIPS sea ice forecast data. There has been a large increase in the area of ice more than two metres thick. Much of the thin ice has been replaced by thicker ice.

Alan, I don't remember ever calling you stupid or farting comment or other personal insults. Why did you start? Having trouble with the frontal lobe?

As for that minuscule little country in Europe you fancy so much, let me tell you that if someone adopts one of the most inefficient ways to produce electricity, to quote them as an example defies all logic. If they produce 20% of their electricity by running squirrels in wire cages, what does that matter? It is not the way to go, and the fact that they do it only shows they have money to burn not that we must do like them.

Windmills for electricity generation exist solely because of government grants. Why do they need government grants? Because they can not repay themselves in a normal business cycle, unlike commercial generation by coal. Coal does not need government grants. Care to think why?

Furthermore the dependence from imported sources of fuel is not in debate here, that is a smoke screen.
    The debate is:
IF we need to replace coal.
WHY do we need to replace coal.
WHAT can we replace coal with.

So far none of the toy you like to play with are a COMMERCIAL solution. They are a hobby, something to play with and pretend to be green. Or something to purchase because the government is throwing so much money at them that whoever does not have them will pay triple for electricity so may as well join in the waste and take advantage of the subsidies.
