The LM-2500 turbine engine used in Spruance class destroyers is a split-shaft turbine. The jet engine is not connected mechanically to the power turbine - the jet thrust blows on the power turbine's blades to turn the propeller. This means the engine can stay revved up at full speed all the time. It also means the ship can go from cold to hot in 15 minutes, as opposed to about 6 hours for steam turbine ships.

have the turbine(s?) blow through elbows or would a V drive box do better? ventilate the running delta and/or props with augmented exhoust gasses?
    want a 90.000 or 12.000 rpm jet? a 200.000 or 10.000 $ ? and more considerations http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3595&highlight=gasturbine and http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3595&highlight=gasturbine
