    SailDesign Old Phart! Stay upwind..

garrobito - they are not that hard to build, but since they are patented/trademarked by Forespar at the moment, you will open yourself up to a nasty lawsuit if you homebuild.

I don't know who got a patent for the design, but it has been around for a long time. The first time I saw it was in a catamaran in NY. I was sailing down the Hudson, and having a catamaran with a wierd rig myself, decided to stop and check it out. The owner had design and built it several years before. This dates it around 1978-79. The patent is not valid because it was public knowledge. Also, it is not an infringment to build one for yourself, only if you sell it or transfer it.
