my boss is asking for an index of a certain piping works here. Can I ask a little help about how to establish an index on piping works? or any steel/replating works. Thanks.

The physical properties of every type of pipe, tube, bar, plate, cast and tooled stock are available in many places online. Pipes are used as conduits and really aren't associated with strength applications. Standard engineer references also have this information in them.

Ramsey & Sleeper's "Architectural Graphic Standards" is an industry standard, though just clicking through www.onlinemetals.com will offer some of the basics. Frankly, if you have to ask (here), you aren't the best person to perform the research for this project.
