    Hi guys,
I've just replaced the trim sender and trim limit units on the leg.
The connection of the trim limit.
All diagrams I've seen show a blue and purple sleeve on the 2 black wires.
Mine don't have any color both are black.
I've read that it doesn't matter which wire goes to either fitting on the pump.
One of the pump wires has 2 wires and the other has just 1.
Can I connected either wire the either or do they have a way they must connect ??
    Thanks Mike.

The trim limit is an on-off switch. It doesn't allow the leg to be trimmed over a set angle with the trim switch. You need to press the trim and/or trailer switches to go higher.

    Hi Gonzo,
Heap I understand it's purpose ok just unsure about connecting the lamp like double black wires.
All diagrams I've seen show a inline purple and blue sleeve showing how to connect to the pump.
My wires don't have these coloured sleeves.
I did read in a couple of forums that it doesn't matter which way these are connected . is this correct ?
    Thanks mike

It doesn't matter, it is just a switch.

In the standard Merc wiring there are colored sleeves on the wires from the engine, the ones coming from the transom unit are black. They end in a male and a female ball connector to avoid confusion.

    The trim and tilt wiring.
Gauge has never worked since I've had the boat.
Can't find wires to connect to.
My understanding is one wire goes to S on the dash gauge and the other an earth.
The sender wires are male and female fittings.
Does it matter which of the 2 wires go to the dash gauge and earth? ?
Can I simply earth to the engine block ??
    Thanks again guy's.

This is how Merc sees it. In the physical drawing just two black wires come from the transom unit. That suggests both the gauge sender and limit switch are grounded inside the transom unit.
Measuring resistance between these wires and ground may provide an answer. It's been over 10 years when I said goodbye to sterndrives, my memory is fading...

Is it the sender wire with male fitting that goes to S on dash gauge ??

And the 2nd wire earthed to engine block or somewhere else ??

    Thanks Mike.
