Thanks for the Vendee update Doug. I'm very intrigued by the solar sail technology used on team 'Natural Energy". If anyone has any more scoop on that please share. I find it quite amazing the solar fabrics are now flexible enough to be incorporated into the mainsail and have enough juice to recharge 9 batteries. It's enough to power a boat for up to "a week". That's impressive to say the least.

Seeing the below decks of one of these, I'd hate to see one capsize. It would be like being in a machine shop in an tsunami.

These are also very wide boats which heel a lot. In the old days, the wide boats sailed on their bottoms and the narrow boats heeled. At least then the crew couldn't be flung very far. Now he can fall almost two stories, if he's perched on the high side and the boat does a sudden, unexpected lurch.

But these are very tough sailors. I'm sure at least some of them will manage.

Although I think this has become a far too reckless enterprise, I wish them all the best of luck.

    Vendee

Guillaume Verdier(one of the designer/engineers) on the chances of these new boats finishing the Vendee at 24000 miles:

"I hope people don’t see it as a normal, everyday thing to finish the race.”

    Vendee--Dali Foils

Even though the guy uses the word "foiling" to describe what the Dali foils do for the IMOCA 60's -which is not true-this is an interesting video particularly as it applies to Hugo Boss:

    Vendee-The Boss

Hugo Boss-the coolest looking of all the boats-in my opinion-but man when there is no wind and lots of sun that thing will be an oven! Spectacular foil assist video!
