    Hi,
I use plastic 55 gal barrels for a pontoon boat. I have noticed the barrels shrink when it is cold at night/morning. I know it is recommended to close the barrels when it is cold but given the temperature will still drop in coming months what is the recommended way of equalizing the pressure ? I have read somewhere about making a small hole on the barrels to prevent shrinking and expansion. Is it the way to go or some other ideas ?

Look up Gortex vents, I think Fallguy or Dog Calvary have used them. They let presure escape but restrict water access.

The barrels are plastic, why vent them?
