building an aluminium 17ft day boat

    hi
    i am building a 17 ft aluminium day boat , am ok with the construction but would like to know what paint to paint the hull with the hull will be washed and etched primer but not sure about top coats weather to go for an epoxy based or what dont know enough about this side of it, and what are the opinions on outboards to be fitted was thinking of twins like 50hps .Any help would be great.

    Epoxy paints generally have low UV resistance and are a bad choice. A urethane or polyurethane enamel is more durable. Regular automotive paint works well and gives you any color, including metallics.

    What Gonzo said, use epoxy primer and urethane topcoat, a good automobile paint is as good as a good marine paint, they are the same chemistry, almost unlimted color choices and you buy it locally mixed for you while you wait. You don't want to use any of the urethane paints below the waterline though if the boat is going to spend extended time in the water.
