    Here's a book

The most authoritative work on the design and construction of the USS Monitor is as follows:

Drawings of the U.S.S. Monitor : a catalog and technical analysis
    • By: Ernest W Peterkin
    • Publisher: Washington, D.C. : Raleigh, N.C. : U.S. Dept. of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Ocean Service ; North Carolina Dept. of Cultural Resources, [1985]
    • Dewey: 623.8 / 1225
    • L.C.: VA65.M65

Unfortunately the book is no longer in print. And don't bother to contact the appropriate government agencies - they don't even remember publishing it. But several US libraries have copies and it is available via interlibrary loan.

Complete drawings of the Monitor including frames, bulkheads, plating, turret, turret engines, main engines, etc, etc. All reproductions of Ericcson's original drawings. If you do get a copy, scan the drawings at a resolution of 300dpi. You'll find detail you cannot pull off the pages without a powerful magnifying glass.

See the attached for the engine bulkheads drawing. And the lettering is artwork in itself.
