Could you use aluminum SIP's to build a lighter weight aluminum boat rather than stiffened plates? I was watching something on the interwebs (maybe a van building documentary on YouTube? Maybe Grand Designs? Maybe a honest-to-goodness boat tour?) where they were using aluminum SIP's. While I'm not sure how you would join them together, but especially if you are planning to insulate the hull, it seems like a good way to combine the benefits of aluminum and cored composite.
