unstayed mizzen

    A 4" heel, taper to a 3" head will do for a hollow freestanding mizzen, for your boat, though you'll want to take the mule halyard to windward in a stiff breeze, just in case. Yep, this seems a pretty thick section, welcome to freestanding masts . . .

    I didn't measure the alloy mast dimensions but it is well over 4" long on the oval section and about 4" thick. So your free standing specs are not much different anyway.

    Stayed oval section masts are a different animal, than free standing, which have to be round section.
