    Stepped hulls on sailing multihulls

Not true. Check out the new Sail for pictures of Mediatis Region Aquitaine -a 60' cat by Yves Parlier.(or his website) In May, Parlier set the new singlehanded multihull 24 hr record in this boat.
The boat uses stepped planing hulls with rudder t-foils for pitch control. The stepped hulls reduce drag a lot over 20 knots of boat speed compared to high beam to length ratio(narrow) displacement hulls. And Parlier was going to incorporate a method of reducing the steps' drag at lower speeds-don't know whether that's been done or not.
