    Brent,

I got a offer of 50.000 US $ for a TV event of my proposed demolition derby!!!

That would pay your 17.000$ sampan and my 30.000$ structure, and still leave the pennies for your flight ticket!

    Doesn´t that sound attractive?

Come to Turkey, you will love it! Most of them are of the same breed as you!

They know nothing, have a big mouth, a sloppy way of doing their jobs and like to blame others for their own incompetence.
And they have no culture, that must be like coming home for you! And it is for free!!!!

Just bring your extraordinary skills, theories and knowledge, we will welcome you wholeheartedly!

Sorry Richard but that wasn't a nice generalization on Turkish people.

    Richard,
In my humble opinion, posting someone's drawings is probably not a good idea. I can appreciate that you've tolerated far more than you should have to, but we've come a long way, here, and the drawings are probably not necessary & should be pulled.

Another matter what camed into my mind concerning Brent's boats... How much they have ballast, in the keel(s) and in the hull? The keels look quite thin and shallow, no bulbs, so what's the AVS and other numbers in this regard?
As an answer I'd like to hear some numbers instead of N*10000Nm sailing and never even near to capsizing:rolleyes:

I concur on this, the stuff is his IP, and unless Brent has given permission to post it, it should probably be removed, or at least minimized except where necessary for "criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research". Whether you agree with him or not, the guy does make his living off of selling the plans, and building the boats; we should "try" to respect that as much as possible. But it is reasonable to weigh that against what many of the people in this forum perceive as a public service/warning/notification.

However, BoatDesign.net is registered, hosted, and owned in the US, and is therefore covered under Fair Use Doctrine ( Copyright Act of 1976, 17 U.S.C. § 107 ) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use

"[A] reviewer may fairly cite largely from the original work, if his design be really and truly to use the passages for the purposes of fair and reasonable criticism. On the other hand, it is as clear, that if he thus cites the most important parts of the work, with a view, not to criticize, but to supersede the use of the original work, and substitute the review for it, such a use will be deemed in law a piracy…" (from wiki)

I apologize for going all lawyer, but I don't imagine any designers on here would want their IP to be posted without their permission.

Thank you. Now have a look at picture Detail_A3_DK1, Nice Cad drawing. This design will fail long before a Brent Swain design fails. Brent has already explained why, reread his lines. Lets move to picture..…Oops looks like the picture has been removed (I must have made an impact). It was showing two electric drives side by side, a shoddy contraption which would have never met any Standards and would never have passed any decent Survey. To be noted was the motor drive support. For someone lecturing in transversal frame calculations definitely this U bracket was lacking. Even Brent would have done better. It really made me wonder which NA in his right mind would put such a picture in his/her gallery. Anyway someone came back to his/her senses.

You also mentioned that they were cheap and obviously looking at the photo gallery anti pollution regulations are low, inexistent or can be circumvented. Be careful. These people have their pride too and you may be out of Turkey before Brent is banned from this forum.

An old man is watching some engineers pegging a new road. What are you doing? Why do you have such complicated instruments, asks the old man. We are tracing a new road. How would you trace a new road without instruments, reply the engineers. We normally use a donkey, where it goes that where the road goes. And if you do not have a donkey what do you do then, ask the engineers. We use engineers, replies the old man.

Then you are just an acolyte. That's a shame I was hoping for a resonable discussion. So you are part of the Origami act too ? Do you realize that you follow the piper with no critical thinking. And also like Brent you have no interest in learning becasue you have the truth and the word.

Brent doesn't have any correct structural arguments he has attitude excuses and anecdotes. He also has a very poor knowledge of design. His design could be significantly improved for little time or cost. That is the real point, why let your ego stifle a design process, nothing is ever beyond improvement.

In my design work I crave peer input and seek it whenever I need it including here on the forum, I'm not shy to ask for help or opinions or an explanation from other professionals or even from the guys doing the fabrication, to see what they think about actually building whatever I'm designing, the insight can be very beneficial. There's nothing I like more in my work than to have someone around who can say "you could do that a little differently and it would be better". It's a process called learning.

It is clear to all the Brent’s boats are not designed nor built to Class and have extremely poor detailing that does not meet any professional world wide standard; despite the anecdotal protestations. Yet I am curious by your statement:

Can you please define what you mean by any “Standards” and also by a “Decent Survey”..?

You really think this is wisdom?

For starter surveyors peg the road. Secondly the road as traced by the animal will go up down and across ground where no vehicle could go, and it will lead to where the animal has a mind to go depending on thirst or hunger or a yearning for its stable.

The next time you open the throttle on the motorway think about that.

Please try and keep the posts relevant to the thread

Now here's one for you. Brent posted before that longitudinals always remain in compression because they are curved, but I don't think he beleives that any more. Where do you stand, do you believe the book or follow the master ? If you allow that the master can change his view then shouldn't you have been able to change first? Or can you only parrot pretended knowledge once its sanctified ?

Mala, could you introduce yourself, what you do where you live and so on.
It is the thirs time I ask, why you don't try to be polite?
Do you have an axe to grind, or are you a spamer to come her to mess in the name in sombody else?
Something in your post are not genuine, strange.
You knoweldge in boat design is obviously poor to non existant.
why you don't try to learn from some of the member who are real proffessional, and take the time to explain.
You should thanks them for that, ask real questions, and learn something.

    List of Brent's Crew-ups

Found this at origamiboats (yahoo groups). It is a list of screw-ups made by his clients, his builders and himself. Enjoy.

He has made several structural design faults in his (so-called) drawings and blames his clients and bulders of them!! This list also shows up the lack of decent documentation (drawings). Otherways this list would describe only his own screw-ups.

    Brent's commandment:
    1. I am your only Designer, don't keep other designers.
    2. I am your only Builder, if you can't DIY
    3. I am your only classification organisation, standardisation and notified body.
    4. If you don't build as I said or correct things as I have written here, you are doomed.

This guy is the Messiah of steel boat design! Hallelujah!!! Amen.

Don't forget that Brent make statement about design. So we have the right to verifie his statement about design.
He started by saying he is the only one who know how to design a boat.
We have the right to try to confront this claim. Since it is about design, we go to the design.
He talk at length of his design, we don't have to wait to verifie if its true or not. He purposely never ever show a drawing because he knows he is wrong. Manipulating the system don't put you of the hook.
