    ldrumond Ya...I look like him

Due to a collision, (didn't sink) transom needs a complete rebuild.
Vessel is a vintage (60s) Monk designed, double planked Mahogany constructed MY.
Due to considerable freeboard, boarding from dink via ladder is a challenge.
Am considering transom rebuild to include cutaway into aft deck to incorporate steps down to permanent (new to be constructed) swim/boarding platform.
Giving up real estate on aft deck is not a problem, engine room is aft, has stand up headroom and can accomodate loss of space by ingress of steps structure.
Understanding that a "hole" cut into the transom will need stuctural compensation. Any comments pro / con.

Your assumptions are correct and it would be wise to have this particular project gone over by a skilled designer, who can account for the load transfers. Certainly a very doable project and will increase the usefulness of your yacht.
