Yeah. How evil those politicians were, using a name for themselves that someone else in the future might want to use for themselves. The sheer unmitigated evil of it boggles the imagination.

Please do. That sounds entertaining. So all of this time we have been under the thumb of the English Crown and didn't even know it. That Queen is such a scheming *****.

As it happens, there were some Americans who had that plan, but the large majority thought it was foolish. I'll also note that at the time, almost the entirety of both continents was under colonial control of various European nations, so they wouldn't have been conquering so much as stealing.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but the US did conquer Mexico at one time, then we left and, as I recall, even gave them some money because we felt bad for being such bullies.

The fact remains that if the US really were an imperialist country, we could easily have conquered Canada and Mexico at almost any time. We
could have made a deal with Hitler and Japan in WWII instead of fighting them. Europe for Hitler, Asia for Japan, and the Western Hemisphere for us. We could have easily continued to occupy France, Italy and various other countries that that we occupied during WWII. When Cuba became an ally of the Russian Empire during the Cold War, only a few miles off of our coast, we could have easily conquered it, but we didn't. After the fall of the Russian Empire, the US could have invaded just about any country we wanted, but we didn't, except for Afghanistan and Iraq a couple of times.

The idea that the US is an imperialist nation is downright laughable. It's like calling a rabbit a carnivore because it ate a bit of meat. Yes, eating meat is something that carnivores do, but you have to look at the overall long-term behavior, not a few isolated incidents that happen to reinforce your prejudices.
