Thoughts on additional stringers?

    I am finishing up the fiberglass repair section of my project (new transom, stringers and keel repair) and I find myself with plenty of additional 6" 1708 biaxial cloth and epoxy. Could there be a downside to adding an additional set of stringers?

    The boat is a 1967 24'er with a 7.5 beam (6.5' @ the water-line). It has two main stringers, 34" apart, running the length of the water-line made up of 2x12 (still original) and wrapped in 3 layers of 1708. Halfway between the main stringers and the side there are 2x2's glassed into the hull in a set of strakes. I was thinking of cutting some plywood stringers and glassing them onto these 2x2's.

    When I step in this area, it seems to have more flex than you'd like. Any thoughts?

    Personally - I don't think you can have too many stringers...unless weight is a prime consideration.

    I wouldn't think so either. Besides, it couldn't add more than 30 lbs or so - they would only be 5 - 6" high.
