    Dear all,

I am new to this Forum. Stumbled across it whilst searching the net for information on a Lock Crowther design: the Kraken 33.

I have stumbled across a Kraken 33, which is in dire shape and in serious need of some structural repairs. Whether or not i will take on this project depends mainly on the reparis of the beams connecting the three hulls (excuse my lacking knowledge on english boating jargon). these are completely rotten and need to be replaced. The raplacement of these beams is what worries me. Does anyone have any information or know of any source which may help me gain more insight into my chances of repairing these beams.

    kind regards,
    niels van der Zeyst

In your position, I would consider buying a copy of the plans for the crossbeams directly from the designer: http://www.crowther.com.au/ . The website even has info about old plans, which is not that usual. Of course, the original builder may have failed to follow the plans EXACTLY ("I'm schocked, schocked to learn..."), so keep your eyes open.

Crossbeams, perfect. At least now I know the propper terminology. I have looked at the site of Crowther Design, and left a message, and I am hoping for a reply from them soon. great that they are still offering these old plans.

I am mainly looking for the size of the crossbeams, and the way they have been put together; I can't imagine crossbeams of 6 mtrs long... but hey, who knows... Thanks for the advice.

Alas, it seems that Crowther has cleaned up their archives. This message just in:

    Dear Sir

Sorry we cannot help you - the boat was designed too long ago and we no longer hold the information.

    Kind regards

at least i found out a bit more baout the crossbeams. the most logical construction would be a box construction of 18 millimeter multiplex for strength. but still the details are a bit vague. does anyone have some other tips or know of other forums or kraken owners clubs maybe?
