Hey fellow boaty types, I have a favor to ask...

There is an old hull being used as a spud barge just up river from the airport and I'm wondering if anyone knows what it was or might be able to get some pictures of it. The position is 45.564752° -122.416920° or about 1.35 miles east of Chinook Landing marine park. The vessel, or whats left if it, is 172 feet long by 25 wide, which makes me think it might be an old patrol boat or cutter.

    Thanks in advance!

Did you look for online CCTV cameras in the area that might pick up the ship?
Give a local business, within sight, a call and have them shoot some photos.
    Make it worth their while...

There was a chance the aircraft carrier USS Ranger (CV-61) could have been moored as a museum ship nearby on the same bank...

Speaking of almost museum ships, the USS Washenaw County is just down river opposite Longview. A group bought it planning to turn it into a museum, but money, vandalism ,etc. It will probably sink where it sits, sadly. I've found some other cool wrecks / derelicts / repurposed hulks in the Columbia I need to check out. Hopefully make it down there in October.

The markings on the deck seem to show circular areas fore and aft of the main superstructure print which might indicate gun mountings.

This looks to be in the right ball park.

Aha! We may have a winner! I though with those dimensions she wasn't a civillian vessel. Thanks everyone!

Looks like everyone forgot about her after that, wonder though who took the superstructure, and if this was legal, and who owns her now, as there's still some scrap value. But for wreck tourists it's much nicer to let her completely perish on the spot now . . :)

It would be great to get a positive ID on the hull and learn the history between lay up at Point Tongue
    [IMG]

and now. the area seems to be under development from Google earth, and I did come across an environmental investigation for the site, so it may see change in the near future.
