    Hi there, i am electrical engineer and i would like to know if there is a bibliography about naval architecture and engineering that can help someone gain basic knowledge on that field

    Sorry to bother again. But i didnt clarify that i am mainly interested in sailind ships. I believe the same principles apply so the bibliography is the same. Correct?

    What size of sailing vessels? Boats (3m)? Yachts (10m)? Ships (80m)? Modern or historical? What material? Wood? Steel? Composite? Lots of specific details, but the general principles are the same. Give us a better idea of what you are interested in and we can point you to a relevant text.

    For sailboats Principals of Yacht Design is a good introduction to the design process and basic analysis.

    The books I recommend:
    - Principles of Yacht Design. L Larsson, R E Eliasson, M Orych (the fifth edition is currently under preparation)
    - Sailing Yacht Design: Theory. Claughton, Wellicome, Shenoi.
    - Aero - hydrodynamics and the performance of sailing yachts. F Fossati.

    As an online resource, I can suggest the following course that we have just released: Sailing Yacht Desing 1. It is an introductory course and covers the main aspects of the design of sailing yachts: theoretical fundamentals, yacht modeling, hull and appendage resistance, sail forces calculation, stability issues, and velocity prediction programs. The instructors are both Naval Architects and are currently teaching several courses related to ship dynamics, stability, fast craft. and sailing yacht design at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
