Hoyt just the basic model at Wallymarts will do the job. There should be a model that has the transducer on a mounting bracket the attaches to the hull --no need for the thru hull type.---

I was honored with the presence of messabout today at Lake Parker in Lakeland. He had with him his wonderful boat Goldilocks and allowed me to take him on as my first crew on TEOTWAWKI boat. He gave me some very good advice which I will take steps to implement.

Gooday - lucky fellow. WOW what a great pic. Sure looks the 'total goods'. How long is it ??? How much does it weigh ??? Lots of info about the mast/boom/rig/sail area - etc etc ??? How fast (just in 10's of mph - will do) - in 'Mack 4 - 5 - or 6 ???

    Sure looks 'trimmed' fab - couldn't be better ! ! !

You got enough room to put us all up for the week - sure could use some great sailing like that. Congratulations, ciao, james

I didn't take the opportunity to crew on Goldilocks yet. That will(hopefully) be for another day. Goldilocks is a little over 15 feet(just under 5 metres) LOA and the bottom is about 37 inches(96 centimetres) wide at the widest point with a nice flaring out at the sides. The mast is a light weight composite weighing in the neighborhood of 5 pounds(slightly over 2kg).

Dammit Hoyt, your picture of the little yellow boat will prove that I do not know how to sail. Sailor types will notice that the tell tales on that dinky sail are not in the right places, the snotter needs to be cinched up and the rudder is not full down. I'm embarassed but I have excuses. I swear I was in the process of tacking, It was a light air day, It was a senior moment.......Oh alright, it was a display of klutzyness.

SR the boat is a flat bottomed skiff, 15' 9" (I think that comes to about 4.8 meters) LOA. The sail is 59 square feet, (5.4 m^2...??). The mast is a CF stick from a sailboard, This is a skinny little boat whose chine width is 37" (a tad less thant one meter.). Beam at the sheer line 52" (1.3 meters more or less) The bottom is a bit too wide for rowing and too narrow for sailing, thus the name Goldilocks. I think it is "just right" for its' intended purpose. All up weight is 130 pounds including the small rig.....I think that comes to about 58kg. but imperial thinkers can never be too sure of the far more sensible metric system. The boat can and does plane when the breeze is up. It is not what one would call a fast boat but it will make about 6 knots in a moderate breeze and considerably more when there is enough air to plane. As homely and conservative as
she is, there have been occasions when she bested some other more seriously competant boats.

Sorry, messabout. I thought you were doing well considering the damage done by the algae at the ramp. There was hardly any breeze, just enough to make the Spanish moss sway a little. Even so you managed 3 knots while I was escorting under power. The milled anodized aluminum hardware you made is also impressive work.

Thanks for the ideas which I will start working on today after I take the Mrs. out for a ride.

Good morning, Yobarnacle. Thanks, but it still needs tweaking.

Nice to see your project hit the water, Hoyt. Lookin' good. And tks for the pictures of Messabout's boat, too.

How do you plan to address the trim issues? More weight forward, trim tabs, or.....?

great job hoyt. looks good. eagle, humminbird or garmin are my choice in the lower priced fish finders. i have a humminbird 550 at the moment which is working well. i did have a condor which was very cheap to purchase but only lasted 2 trips.

Thanks to all. No one happier than me. :)
More weight forward was easy. We just stuck our feet up on the front deck. :D
Transom needs re-doing due to having cut the engine notch a tad(1 1/2 inch/38mm) too deep.

We had her out for 3 hours today. Two more hours of operation and the break-in period will have been completed.

Hoyt, it's great! Would a whale-tail help on the lower unit?
