I wondered who would be the first to catch that one.

 

Rain threatened today but I managed to reinforce the 4 crossbeam mounts and got some few ounces of epoxy laid on.

 

When are you taking her out ?

 

It will probably be a couple of weeks at least. It still needs the crossbeams cut to length and fiber-glassed, seating made, equipment added, painted, application for title and boat registration with the State of Florida.

Hi Hoyt,

Don't forget to save your money for boat launching fees. Most of Hillsborough County now charges you for the privilege of launching your boat. I haven't checked the Fowler Avenue boat launch lately. it still may be free.

Are the hulls sticking out of the trunk of the truck so the lid has to stay open whilst driving . . ? ?

If so, aren't you afraid exhaust fumes will be sucking in by the slipstream . . . ? ? ?

Just make sure you have plenty of "over thickness" around the bolts on the hull and cross beam. To:

1) Help transfer the shear load
2) Reduce the bearing stress on contact with the bolts.

And taper the thickness back slowly to the main hull

Don't over torque the bolts too...with nice large washers

I know it's a small boat..but..!!!!

 

The window will be down and shut(and locked) but the tailgate will be open. No worries about the exhaust fumes. The bed is separated from the cab. THe cab has a rear window. The topper has a front window. Between those windows the rain comes down.

 

Two of my friends went to Mozambique to do some sailing in the bay and to some of the islands. The launch strip charged them some ridiculous amount just to launch.

So they went just beyond the wire ending the launch strip's property. There are a gazillion natives who for a few cents carried the stuff to the shore... and that's how they launched at a fraction of the ripoff fee. The same bunch carried the stuff back a few days later when they returned.

LOL, good idea. We guys get lower back problems if we carry heavy things, letting the wife do it is the correct procedure
