They probably didn't fill up the fuel tanks. No fuel, no "sail" boat performance...

It's a hell of a lot harder to get a main off and a new main up in those conditions than it is to write about it. A mainsail can flog itself to death during the re-hoist process as well.

Dozens of boats retired, hardly surprising when the "need for speed" strains components that are already a compromise between what aids speed, and durability.

10 pm, light winds but all "on the nose"

Commanche leading Rambler - 220 "crow" miles to go at 12 knots.

It will be a cold old night out there.

Rambler can come back....especially at 2.4 knots faster and higher!
UPDATE: Rambler hit something last night(our time) and damaged her stb daggerboard. I remember ,late, seeing her drop to 6 knots for a bit...

NOTE: as of about 3hrs ago, 27% of the original fleet has retired. That compares with 50% in 2004........

    Go 88!!!

RSHYR website is saying they were the victims of a denial of services attack, which is why their tracker was acting glitchy earlier in the race. They don't say it was specifically targeting them, but that it affected the servers that host the site.

Funny, according to the screwy website ,Rambler has been faster for the last several hours --and has gotten further and further behind- almost 30 miles just now. Something is very wrong..... Website now says 37nm behind -no speed, no heading!

Different tracker-screwy in its own right: shows TWO Comanches! http://yb.tl/rolexs2h2015

The much-vaunted race between the 100 footers has turned into a complete fizzer, hasn't it. Great for about three miles, but now there's been a 50% retirement rate and an enormous gap between the only two survivors.

Five of the nine canters are out of the race - a much higher percentage than that of the overall fleet. And two of the survivors are damaged.

It'd be nice to see Rambler get line honours; maybe we could see a return to smaller boats.

Rambler is underway at speed and listed as 15nm behind. She dropped 4 places in the IRC standings and corrected time has jumped by 4 hours. Comanche only dropped one place.

Six O'clock - very light winds. Commanche leading Rambler at around 9 knots.

Ragamuffin 100 doing well - 11 knots, 30 miles behind

Looks like a late tonight arrival - should be good to see a tacking battle up the river before its gets dark tonight.

I'm very suspicious of the tracking info. Just a couple hours ago it showed Rambler behind 37 miles-now supposedly behind 14 miles. Both trackers have been screwed up -no telling whether or not they still are.
According to the very questionable tracker and other sources there are still 4 canters in the race Rags(canter?), Maserati, Rambler and Comanche. And thats just the big ones. Might there be smaller canters racing as well? Who were the retired canters-Oats, Loyal and?

    Go Rambler 88!!!!
