WOXI 16+ miles ahead and 6.4 knots faster! Speeds are changing up and down quickly-must be puffy......
    UPDATE: 12:54 pm-Loyal has slowed to 2.5 knots-trouble?
UPDATE: 1:59 pm -Wild Oats XI is twice(2.4 times) as fast as Loyal and 24 miles ahead!
UPDATE: 3:08 pm- Oats is now 29.1 miles ahead-longest lead of the race by either boat and has a 1.3 knot speed advantage!
UPDATE: 3:49 pm-Wild Oats XI is now 30.2 miles ahead of Loyal. Oats speed is 14.3 knots and Loyal =12. Loyal has got another problem: Ragamuffin has nearly caught her-2 miles behind with Ragamuffin going faster- 12.7 knots.
UPDATE: 4:57pm Oats is 31.2 miles ahead doing 13.3 knots. Loyal is doing 15.3 knots
UPDATE: 5:56pm Oats ahead by 33.7 miles ahead doing 16.4 knots but Loyal is doing 18.4
    ---
-191 miles to go for Oats-finish somewhere after 13 hours or after 5am tomorrow morning easter time.
-Rags only one mile behind Loyal but Loyal faster for now......

    Go Wild Oats!!!!!

And over 170 miles behind her 2012 SoG. So it seems that DSS is slowing her down.

Once again, looking at the fleet makes one wonder how much money the developers of CBTF lost. There's not a single CBTF boat in the fleet (Rags is the possible doubtful exception AIUI) is there?

Funny how technology that is touted as the way of the future can disappear so fast.

Wrong-she may be modified but Oats still has her forward rudder and fits the definition of CBTF. She can be sailed in a couple of configurations and CBTF is one of them.(as far as I know)

I would have thought that the breeze hasn't been strong enough to really give the dss a chance to show it's stuff.
Though I don't expect that will stop you guys having a dig at Doug. But it will be interesting to see what the sailors think of it post race. The fact that she is in the lead and mixing it with the latest and greatest impresses me.

There's only one person thats made ignorant comments about DSS-in some article they said they either wanted 20 knots of wind or 20 knots of boatspeed-and off the wind. They haven't had either as best I can tell- so I doubt they've used it-which is one of the advantages of the system-you simply put it away when you don't need it.
DSS is a proven system on Lake boats and a couple of sport boats and there is no doubt that it is a real benefit for a boat designed for it or that Hugh thinks fits the profile of a boat that can benefit from DSS like Wild Oats.
You're right: it will be interesting to see if they're as enthusiastic about it after the race and the trip home as they were before.
There is a 100 footer under construction now designed from scratch for DSS..

Which ones? I did get one boat's configuration wrong (BG) but how does that compare to the level of accuracy of other people here?

Does she still have the forward rudder? That's an honest question. I cannot see it in the VS pics.

What is (AIUI) the canard centreboard is visible, but no forward rudder AFAIK.

It was. How did you think it caught and took the lead when the breeze was strong.

Is it not also retractable like the other foils. Plus it's mast height 130ft and new light weight material for soft air sailing. Just about every thing on that boat can be adjusted to suit all conditions, where as most off the other boats are virtually single sailing conditions designed. Perpetual loyal is designed as a reaching running boat conditions and does not suit light airs or going to windward. They are in windward conditions at the moment and since loosing the lead.

Its good to see a old boat adapting with new added tech rather than scrap it and build a new replacing racer and still be a winner. They don't need a new boat at the moment until overseas boats enter and beat it. That's supposing they don't have a better navigator, tactician and sail trimmer than the other boats.

The SH does not attract worldwide entries of any significance. It is a Australian Mono race that Australians have develop over time to be Australia's only off shore race worth sail or competing in.

Mixing it with the best and greatest. Big question mark.

Where are the latest and greatest in the Sydney H race.

    Go Perpetual Loyal !!!

Oats has 139.2 miles left and is doing 18.2 knots. Loyal is doing 18.3 knots and is 37.8 miles behind Oats. One minute later and both doing 17.9 knots! Geez, another minute and WOXI is doing 19.3knots and Loyal 18.1......

In addition the whole coverage wording.

Whatever the results of the Rolex Sydney Hobart 2013, one thing is certain - when the race starts at 1pm on Boxing Day it will capture the imagination of sailors and spectators worldwide and millions more tune into the action on TV and online!

All my comments revolve around the word worldwide and for some **** stirring reason you choose to ignore that wording or phrase in the sentence.

The S H is a Australian icon sailing mono race and is well accepted as the race to race in the southern Hemisphere only. I don't dispute that.

How many people watched the start on TV in NZ, America, England, Japan, China, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Russia, Canada and Ireland ?

Where did I say that a person was lying ?

    The Tracker still does work.

The tracker map is inferior to race trackers used in other worldwide renowned races.

Your first paragraph also can be said about the fastnet race
what's more the fastnet opened for entries and was closed 24 hrs later with over 300 entries.

    Re slinging ****

Check the dictionary re that words definition.

Go Perpetual Loyal !!! and Gavin Brady.

Can you tell us how the Aussies are doing in the test at the moment?
