I have seen a motor boat of 20 ft with a thick swim platform . What are the benefits of this solution ? Could cause problems during the planing mode?
What do you think about ?

It could be a flotation chamber.

Would it ever touch the water when planing?

I'd like to see a photo of the boat on a trailer.

Statics: when the swim platform is loaded, the bending forces induced to the hull are distributed.

The platform provides additional buoyancy if partially immersed by a big person.

    Hi Heimfried,

the first note (about statics) is correct. Mechanical stresses are much better distributed when the swim platform is blended into the hull
The second one is not relevant. Should that swim platform get immersed due to the weight of a really (really!) big person, the bow would be high in the air at that point. A highly improbable situation.

One probable reason for that particular shape of the platform is aesthetical. It matches perfectly the curvy lines of the boat and carries them seamlessly all the way to the aft.

    Cheers

Thank you so much for reply. What about the interference during the planing? Could be a benefit ?

The swim platform is dry during planing, so it has no influence on the boat's handling characteristics at high speeds.

However, if the height of the platform has been calculated correctly, the platform volume and bottom area could help decrease the trim at pre-planing speeds.

And the buoyancy of the platform is certainly beneficial in following seas. With waves coming from the aft, the first buoyant volume they encounter is the swimming platform. In that way, the platform helps raise the transom (and the motor) up before the incoming waves could flood the engine well.
