way back in the late 60s a south australian company called skippercraft made a set up that was like 2 windsurfer boards with a platform between them. had a ss bar athwartship to hang onto, a throttle control and you steered by leaning. the outboard usually under 20 hp was locked in the straight ahead position. the company owners wife strapped one of the new inline 6 mercs on the back and competed in the glenelg to penashaw race and obliterated the competition! took many years for her record to be beaten, brave woman!

    power ski

interesting to find this old thread. as i am the son of the women who did this race her name is melva peake (skippercraft boats S A australia) these vessels were called power skies and yes she was a brave woman. we have photos of her and her boat , she went on to race a hartley boat called vixen and won more races with that . all races she did were open ocean races she was a gutsy, staunch woman. anyone need more info let us know.
