I am studying the interactions between two vessels as a project.

I have been give the task of calculating the basic resistance values for a model based on a range of particulars (shown below). I have been advised to do this using Holtrop & Mennen.

The vessel particulars are as follows.
    Model

    LOA (m) 1.71
    LBP (m) 1.57
    B (m) 0.3
    T (m) 0.125
S 0.735417 Calculated using the Denny formula
    Disp (kg) 50.224
    Vol Disp (m3) 0.050224

Does anyone have a spreadsheet which will allow calculation of the resistance in Newtons or can help me with these calculations?

Have a look, but check first that your boat is within the valid limits to apply the method Holtrop (see the first page, top right, of the worksheet) :

There are several Holtrop-Mennen spreadsheets in the Spreadsheet Library here at boatdesign.net.

Please keep in mind that Holtrop-Mennen has derived from model tank tests and includes a correlation allowance to account for scale effects.

    Hello TANSL and Olav.

Thank you for your replies, the spreadsheets are extremely helpful and detailed.

Another addition to the calculations would be to calculate the resistance at certain drift angles, what would be the best way to approach this? Is there something to add into Holtrop-Mennen or does this have to be done separately?

    Thanks again.
