Substitute for plywood?

    This thread is about what you can substitute for plywood in this case.

    You can use G10 or similar, or laminate in place. It will be heavier then ply of course.
    As for having the openings on the side, same thing, different mechanism, water will go in.

    Just another thing, if you keep the short strap arrangement shown, the whole thing, backing pad and big steel plate has to also move to the outside.
