Have a custom project with gel coat finished fiberglass, where I want to cut out a logo and put LEDs behind it. Was considering clear gel coat or straight poly resin (UV rated?) for the void space but it would end up at least 1/8" or more in thickness. And I was told I could put a translucent acrylic sheet up against that.

Can you bond acrylic with poly resin? Say even if you sanded it? Sorry for stupid questions.... I was told yes at the store and no when reading online.

Yes you can! A polyurethane based product to obtain some flexibility and a special surface activator for acrylic are required. Available from 3M and Sikaflex.
