5.0 rebuild or replace whats better to do

    I recently bought a 1989 VIP victory with a cobra omc 5.0 engine in it right off the bat seen it that both of the exhaust manifolds were cracked currently have it at the boat shop to see if the block is cracked any advise??????? were can i get one or can i rebuild if it is bad any guidance would be appreciated thanks

    In that case, a replacement engine is easy to get. The shop you took it to should be able to get you a Jasper engine. If you have no luck, I'll be back in Wisconsin in about three weeks and can ship you one.

    If just the manifolds are cracked(they usually crack only on the outside)you can epoxy them up.

    If the block is cracked on the outside(no water in oil) you can epoxy the block as well.

    If you have water in the oil it is new/rebuilt/used engine time.

    If there is even a pinhole on the inside of the manifold, the engine will get water in and be ruined. No reputable shop will do that kind of work, and none will guaranty it. Also, check the circulation pump in the front.
