Longitudinal Centre of Gravity (LCG)

    If we want to design the new boat, How to know the LCG of boat?
    Some one tell me that i must know the weight of every equipment in the ship (engine, pump, aux. engine, navigation equipment, etc) so I can get the LCG of the boat.
    LCG = [total (weight equipment x distance to midship)]/total weight
    Is this correct ????

    Two quibbles. 1) Not just the equipment. The hull (&c) must also be included. 2) The "distance" must be a signed quantity, i.e. "-" if forward of midships, "+" if aft (or vice versa). LCG is found by marking off from midship according to the result of the formula.
