Spark danger problem?

    I am correct in assuming that the spark problem from altenators/starters is not an issue with a diesel inboard?

    Many marine diesel units imported to NZ do not have marine electrics fitted but many boats have volatile fuels aboard such as auxilary outboard motors and fuel and LPG cooking and heating and all manner of lighting fuels,and possible diesel vapours.just because it is not a legal requirement,why not have the extra safety,just for your friends.Here in New Zealand we have changed to low sulphur diesel which has caused old diesel engines to leak fuel,requiring expensive update of all seals in diesel fuel systems,and marine units are not exempt from this problem.When we change to Alcohol mixed with gasoline,in NZ (possibly 3 percent max recomended by JAP manufacturers) the same leaking problem is expected in gasoline autos.Bio-diesel with an Alcohol base could catch out a lot of boaties expecting to treat the new diesel like the old brew,carefree days of boating with good reliable fuel supplies may be somewhere in the past.
