I just ordered a rebuild kit for my 1962 Evinrude 40 hp and began disassembling my engine. I beleive the impeller is ruined causing the engine to overheat. Anyways my I got the lower unit bolts unscrewed but cannot figure out how to disconnect the upper and lower unit? I can see the water tubes and driveshaft but cannot figure out how to disconnect them. Any help would be appreciated as to how to take it apart and replace the impeller!

    Thankyou

You need to disconnect the shifter rod.
