I've said it before and watched it destroy discussion forums before, but open discussion areas within relatively narrow focus discussion forums have been the death to many. You just can't permit some types of conversation and not expect animosities and hurt feelings spilling over into the general discussion areas. If you cage a tiger in your backyard, you can't complain about the smell of cat ****. You must accept the smell or remove the cage.

There are plenty of places, for every type of abuse you'd like to impose, on who ever available on line. This forum doesn't have to attempt to provide any of it. The most peaceful forums I frequent, don't have open discussion areas and the conversation and participation is and remains subject focused, which this sort of thing being unheard of. Lastly, the first amendment doesn't apply here, in spite of what most will think. Moderators need to trim the tree occasionally and are well within their rights to do so. No one has a right to come and start crap and it's the moderator's job to catch this and address it as they see fit.

As for the McCarthyism, well I was replying to a theme started previously and one that has been persuasive in recent years in the USA. It's a fad and will wear itself thin shortly, as it always has in previous uprisings (historically speaking). In fact, McCarthyism was washed up by a little 'ol Hollywood secretary. She wasn't a "player" but when called to testify, she made such a mockery of the whole idea of the proceedings and the congress, that the whole thing collapsed upon itself in short order, as it should have. The same is true of the "class of '94" who literally are finishing up their jail terms now or attempting to remain "out of the spotlight" as best as they can, to avoid further embarrassment.

Actually, the thread is off-topic here. Par's first two paragraphs are apropos.

I assume they remained safe in spite of you, not because of you. Are you trying to set some sort of record for how many threads you can destroy?
