Solar power boat list

I put oar sockets on my 23ft San Juan, but the longest easily available, affordable priced oars I could find was 8 ft, which are too short for the tall freeboard. I did find some 11 footers online but havent pulled the trigger yet.

A good position for rowing yachts is behind in the waterline at the stern with a structure attached to the transom, there's a video on youtube of a 40-50 sailboat being rowed that way



Probably a laced dinghy to the stern will do too

Interesting .Its possible to make support folding and light . Oars are long but easy to fix on deck. And long rod that's easy to switch between boat hook-paddle is possible.
Good blackout emergency propulsion . I will consider this in my designs.

That start to clearly be out of subject, but I thought about putting bike crankset on the shaft propeller of our boat.
100-200W can be generate with legs. That seem a good emergency solution... or just for fun to cruise at 1-2 knot powered by legs.
 
Ok. I change my thoughts .Thats not good idea . Oar or bike crankset . As very last of emergencies maybe. And position of that rowing man looks like good orca bait .

You can get 12' 6" oars from any single sweep rowing shell. 2-man through 8-man, and then cut to length.

Rather this is more on-topic as this thread is also about "alternative" propulsion after few decades of diesel status quo

Pedal boats are chartered as funny toys on tourist places probably because the smear to rowing.

Pedal powered boats are ok and keep momentum and reduces backwards drift against wind but with a rowing oar you can row deep to create more torque in some situations while with a small propelled you get limited to increase rpm.

Also instead propeller both pedal and rowing can use fin propulsion like "power fin" also known as "stern sculling" probably a rope transmission pedal system also can power that type of fin propulsion

However with few oars available a crew can row a boat without much effort or even row upwind in some lee shore scenario with broken engine while a single stern oar or single propeller limits the available power delivery

There's also "forward facing rowing" like frontrower that can be rowed without arms just with the pendular back movement, however with usual rowing oars a webbing around the back can make possible "back rowing" as well, reducing arm effort

is quite interesting . 85 tons isn't my religion , most sophisticated pv design at the time .

Yes while CSP solar only needs aluminum vacuum coat or glass lenses, CSP solar is the future of energy mostly for thermal applications as melting, furnaces, cooking , heating any process, etc while CSP for transportation has not been applied nor researched much, but its there.

The same happens with wind mechanical power for compressors, tools, machines etc without electricity just as old mills

And that way are more efficient that solar/wind to electric and then mechanical again, and wastes no mined toxic resources
