I have been using an Android phone as plotter #2 for a couple of years, with a laptop or Raspberry Pi as #1. They both have OpenCPN and a full set of Australian electronic charts which cost about €35 PA for two devices, cheap considering other Aus electronic chart offerings.

35 bucks is a bargain for updated charts.

I have a C-Map global chart on a disc, gifted to me before i even had a laptop, and no laptop to run it from these days. Even if bouyage changes, at least land is in the same place. I need a complete refresh on whats availiable these days, I heard Navionics have gone subscription mode. Open CPN seems the way forward.

It's about $550 here (about $2 per £1), not as expensive as I guessed. Hard not to have for blue water stuff.
