Single main sail with unstayed mast on cruising catamaran?

The main problem I see with a single, unstayed mast is 'bury', how to support/brace the mast. Material shouldn't matter, grown pole or carbon fiber, still needs support. You will need to have 4+ feet of the mast below deck level. Solve that and you can probably solve any other problems.
