Line honors went to Masterlock Comanche with a magnificent 20 knot run up the Derwent pulling away from Law Connect and Scallywag over the last 6 hours. But the race is only half done for most of the fleet. Conditions have improved after a very tough first two days. At least 34 boats have retired, many with crew injuries and rig damage. Structural issues with hull and keels were also featured.

Although the weather and seas state was tough, with 25-30 knots on the nose for two days and 3-4m seas, that isn't something that should break boats that have spent months prepping for an ocean race.

The IRC veteran division is currently led by Bacardi. It's her 32th S-H, and the old 44' Peterson lead mine is chugging along just fine. She finished 29 of the previous 31 races. She's 9th in Div 5.

Love and War is doing well, and so are several JPK designs.

The S-H participants may need to see a competent therapist. Year after year there are broken boats and broken bones as a result of vicious weather and angry seas.

What the hell, I might have signed on to do that kind of madness when in my more youthful days.

Once again, the old-school S&S designs are going to take home some hardware. It's not over yet, but it's looking pretty good for Crux and Love and War. Crux is the last S&S 34 to be built. Love and War is an S&S 47.
