I want to play around with some foil shapes for my I14 and it sounds as if Xfoil is what I need. Seems XFOIL requires Unix. Are there other options? I'm not the brightest on the block when it comes to software requirements, so speak slowly;)

There are versions of Xfoil available for 32-bit Windows versions as well as for Unix-like systems. It reportedly runs just fine on Windows XP, 2000 and NT, but may not get along so well with older versions.

    See http://web.mit.edu/drela/Public/web/xfoil/

It also has a bit of a users group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/xfoil/

Xfoil, like most research code, comes in pieces and operates through a text console. If that's intimidating for you, you might check out JavaFoil ( http://www.mh-aerotools.de/airfoils/javafoil.htm ).

Javafoil has a much friendlier interface. It will take less effort to get results from it.

Matt and Rick, Thanks for the advice. I might try the original version, sounds like you feed it text input files like the old Fortran programs we used to put together in school.
