Hi All. And a happy new year.

I'm building an outrigger for a sailing canoe that I am to be building next and I'm at the point where I need to attach the three tiny decks, which will create three voids inside. I've used thickened epoxy fillets on all the internal joints thus far, but of course I won't have access to do that for the decks. I was wondering about maybe fixing a softwood frame inside the hull up to the level of the deck and applying a thick bead of epoxy to that before placing the deck in place. Is there a better method?

    Thanks

    Simon.

That is called a cleat and probably the most common method. Good thinking!

The other option is to make an epoxy cleat with the help of a form, but i have always used a wood batten well coated with epoxy before bonding a deck. An epoxy fillet might be lighter if weight is absolutely critical, but wooden cleats are easier and often a lot cheaper.
