Self steering for double wheels, can somebody help me out?

After looking at the link I realized "double wheels" in the thread title means two steering wheels.

Does "self steering" refer to an electronically controlled auto-pilot or a vane system?
 
Is the system mechanical or hydraulic?

Mechanical.

For implementation on for instance a Hanse 348.
With tillers it's easy, but how does it work with twin steering wheels?

Almost to a point it might be a messy job to install.
Just leave it that way.

Depends on how much power you have. If it uses a quadrant, you could install an all-electric servo on a second quadrant. For more power, the cleanest solution would be to extend the rudder head and attach a rotary actuator with feed back. Of course that will need a dump circuit for manual steering. Realistically though, both of those are not really 'self steering' as much as 'course holding'. A lot of processing is needed to keep a digital system at the correct angle to the wind.
 
The number of steering wheels has nothing to do with the autopilot drive. The drive (linear hydraulic/electric, electro-mechanical) connects to the ruddershaft via a short tiller, wich is either separate or integral to the quadrant.
Hanse uses Jeffa gear, I think the 348 has a rudderhead with quadrant and integral drive arm (it is welded to the quadrant) and is prepared for a Jeffa Direct Drive 1. The drive is compatible with several manufacturers brains, but its use is not mandatory.

That is exactly what I am looking for, thanks. And it's for holding course.

In my configuration I have two of those wheels and the actuator hidden above the steering shaft. I am able to have one of those two pedestals being rebuild to the control system. I'll start working on that. Thanks once again.
