What size / type of diesel engine are you using?
Do you have a specification sheet for this particular engine?
If there is a drawing on the specification sheet (there usually is), you might be able to 'roughly' scale from the drawing re the size of the exhaust?
Are you referring to the flexible hose connecting the exhaust to the pipe, or the pipe itself?
If the pipe, will it be made from eg fibreglass or steel, or aluminium?
If you have a particular engine in mind, then your local engine dealer should be able to provide you with the information required re exhaust diameter?

OK, do you know what the make / Builder of the engine is?

Is it in vee formation with twin exhausts, or just a single exhaust with inline cylinders?

The easoest thing to do is to measure the inside diameter of the collector pipe. I assume this is the single exhaust tube that exits out of the hull. Thickness will depend on the dia of the tube. This time, since it is a tube, it is measured from the outside. Pipes are measured from the inside.

    Please,
Find at first the turbo type of the engine. It is crusial to build the Exhaust Gases formation regarding the back pressure level.
