Also only Amerindians and certain Asians have shovel shaped incisors, probably dating back to emigration from Siberia many thousands of years now past.

A favorite story. Didn't happen to me, before my time.

A loaded great lakes ore carrier left Chicago in fog, bound for Buffalo, NY.Twas before the days of radar, so they navigated by dead reckoning and radio bearings, and occasionaly saw a light house, but it was foggy the entire trip up Lake Michigan, through the Straits of Mackinaw, and down Lake Huron. They were approaching Port Huron at the upper mouth of the St Clair River. They expected to hear the Huron Lightship fog whistle stationed at the outer end of Huron Cut Channel. it worried the capt, that couldn't hear that horn in the fog. Navigation said it should be close by. The captains nerves gave out and he ordered drop the hook, too scared and worried to proceed blind any further.
Lakers have a long thick white painted spear like a bow sprit sticking forward from their bow. Called the steering pole. Once the anchor was set, capt ordered the steering pole be rigged in and scrubbed. Coal dust and soot from the boilers quickly blackened the steering pole making hard to see. The hands tried, but something was fouled and pole couldn't be rigged in. Captain agreed to let it be for now.
Next morning sun came out and burned away the fog. The reason the steering pole couldn't be rigged in, was because it was fouled in the shrouds of the Huron Light Ship. The light ships fog whistle was broken and out of service. The captain that told me this story swore it was true.

Impressive dead reckoning - navigator should have received a Nobel prize!

    Great stories.
I've been reading (studying) Short story writers. I'm getting to like the idea of a series or a book, of adventures a trio of guys went through on a long voyage.
I really hope all this catches the eye of an already successful short story writer. I'm too old to take on a project like this.

    Too old?

I'm 66yrs myself, but I have always felt I had a book or two in me.
I have been on sites where they map out the procedures of writing a book for you,but they are a bit complicated and there is a lot of " getting things in order"I do believe there are people out there that can sort things out from your writings. They format and collate your story for you.
I have had articles published by magazines, there is a lot of personal satisfaction in it,plus the renumeration of course.
I think my personal life story would make interesting reading, and it seems a pity that so many people have a wealth of experiences that will never be heard.Reality will always make better reading than fiction in my mind,I believe the public in general are sick of the plastic world of fiction, and something actual will always be preferable.

My only intent in asking was to encourage. If he answered he was 70 and would take 5 years to write the book, meaning he'd be 75 when it was finished. Then I'd ask how old would he be in 5 years if he didn't write the book? :)

No disrepect to the guy,but I cant let the chance for a joke go by.

Perhaps he is so old that one clean shirt will do him.

    My apologies in advance

My wife insisted I have a vasectomy. We're to old to raise another child , infancy thru college. She made my appointment for an in office procedure.
The morning of, I showered, polished my shoes, donned sunday suit and tie.
She was suspicious. Whe're you going all dressed up? I'm personally escorting you to the doctors office. Really I hadn't thought about running away untill she seeded it in my mind. But I knew I'd not escape. I explained the suit.
"If I'm gonna be impotent, figured I ought to look impotent."
