Go to the multi hull thread and pose your questions about design. There are some proa guys there--- albeit with contentious outlooks. They can provide you with much insight into the questions you are considering.

The basic problems I see are the lack of understanding about much of the dynamics involved, both from an engineering point of view, from a practical and also a sailing point of view in this thread. There's no short way of obtaining this information (experience), short of study and seat of the pants empirical efforts. It's really hard to design "out of the box" when your experiences are limited.

Back in the 80s (a very long time ago) I helped build a catamaran for an engineer that had taken on the design himself. I would have turned him away because of the inevitable outcome that I didn't want to witness. My business partner at the time insisted that money was money and his choices should not be our concern.
I won't detail it, but launch day was very sad. It was naivety afloat. It was embarrassing for his family and a very awkward day all round. He had squandered a lot of cash.
Since then I have made every effort to send energetic home builders and designers to seek out good sources and go through the right steps to succeed in trying out some of their ideas.
