The variables of the good-bad behavior Gliding-Surfing Big Waves are:

    a) High side pressure
    b) Low side pressure
    c) High vertical pressure
    d) Low vertical pressure

    e) longitudinal position of the hydrodynamic center of the keel/board
    f) Lateral rudder force corrected by a handful of negative effects

    g) Longitudinal balance or imbalance due to the longitudinal position of the center of Buoyancy and the center of Flotation

    h) Longitudinal metacentric height

    i) Sail force and its vertical leverage arm

    j) And if the crew can move the longitudinal position of the center of gravity aft to achieve a bow up and stern down attitude of the hull

But from one ton upwards it is better to entrust this question to Hydro Static Forces and Hydro Dynamic Forces.

I have been sitting on Venus 28 plans for 30 years ! I have Dr Butlers book, the math for his "metacentric analysis" takes some digesting. It is fact that boats designed to the formula certainly are well behaved.
Im not sure his formula works as well on almost flat under body boats with bolt on keels.

    Yes, yes

I think that the Scandinavian tradition well expressed in the "Venus" and the keen-eyed ophthalmologist Thomas Harrison Butler constitute what we could perhaps call the Core of the Classical Solution

So for me for a few years it has been how to define the classical solution in more general terms or in another way but staying on the good path forged by those who preceded us

Wow the Optimist foil surfing was awesome Carlos, a younger me would have loved it, so much scope for fine tuning too (if regulations do not stifle innovation).
