Hello once again, i have another qurstion about lifting keel machanisms, is it worth going for second variant, or ill be better off with the firs one, what are the drawbacks apart from more wetted area? will this keel angle on 2nd pic be enough to be able to loose any weeds and nets ill find in hypothetical ocean, or ill be better off with kelp cutter and a set of diving gear? upload_2021-8-30_17-35-4.png upload_2021-8-30_17-39-48.png

Gravity will bind the angled version making it impossible to raise or lower.

    What a short sighted comment.
Are there no mechanisms that will allow the keel to be raised - with reasonable force.

    Yes. Wheels.

That vertical version will stick up and impede the movement of the boom.

Either of these is going to impinge on cabin space an awful lot.

Mine goes up with a small cable winch under the companionway hatch. Stub keel and swing keel are external and cast iron about 500# / 227kg, boat is 21' / 6.4m.

The smallish Swedish CB66 has an angled keel at 32 degrees. The keel is only 215kg, with no prob winching it up/down.
