My brother is interested in becoming a boat designer. What type of formal schooling is recommended? Basic AutoCAD? Is there a specialized AutoCAD program for boat design? I would appreciate any recommendations sent emy004k@yahoo.com

Good questions, but I'd suggest you read through the "Education" and "Software" categories in these forums, where they've been addressed already.

A quick answer on software: try the Rhino plug-in for AutoCAD.

Ahem! Do they still sell a plug-in. IIRC they made it totally stand-alone about 6 or 7 years ago. I may be wrong (and frequently am) but.....

I may be wrong, but in any case Rhino's file exchange capability vis-a-vis AutoCAD should be good. I'm not personally experienced with Rhino however, and welcome more informed comments by those who are.
