Hi guys I need help with my 59 elgin. The boat been in my family for years and I want to get it in the water. The boats in pretty good shape The hull has been primed with a two step epoxy paint and ready to be painted. The problem is the inside is still natural but is in bad shape (peeling clear finish) Without stripping it what is my best option to clean it up with out doing any harm.

 

Once the varnish has gotten that bad and bare wood has been exposed, you don't have much choice but to remove the dead finish, prep the surface and apply new finish. You can save a dieing finish, but if you wait too long, then it dries out and no wonder goo can help it, just elbow grease and new surface treatments.
