Sailing Dinghy Poll

This is really a follow up to my "best dinghy" thread. Of the above, what is your favorite sailing dinghy? Please post a response with each vote explaining why in an coherent fashion. Thank you!

not to like ruin your idea here or anything, but if we vote and then post a response, isnt that like sort of what we were doing in the last forum?

 

Nonononononoon. I'd like to see a running reccord (Note to USA2: "like" ruin my idea? So SORT OF ruin my idea? Kidding, kidding.) of who prefers what. Responses aren't required though.

 

i like the word "like". It makes a response seem so much more vague...

As stated previously, only responses stated 2 or more times on my "best dinghy?" thread were included.

 

None of the above. RS800 has got to be my favourite, it an awesome boat but I've not had a go in a 49er (not sure I' up to it yet!). I like the 29er too, very well thought out. I own an I14 morrision 7a since it's stupidly fast downwind and cost me £800!

 

Try sailing an FD in flat water and 10 knots of breeze -- and then just enjoy the experience of a fine craft as you accelerate out of the slow and up onto a plane --

I picked the Laser even though many of the others are "better" boats. I've sailed the Cherub, Hobie 16 and 18, 505, and some others a lot, and enjoyed them all. But the Laser is still tops for competition and fellowship, as well as simplicity. To steal a phrase from an athlete in another sport, "It's not about the boat."

Where's the Snipe on this list? It was the most popular one design before the Laser came along, and I bet it's still in the top 5.

Not nearly enough choices on your list. There are a zillion dinghy designs that have adherants. You could include Sunfish, one of the most popular boats going. Those who vote for Sunfish can shield their identity. Neat boat for its' purpose, many fiercely competitive sailors run those little beasts. I daresay that there are so many of them, that the total would equal or surpass the sum of all the boats on your list except Opti prams. My favorite all time is the M-20 scow. Not to say it is the fastest, or most versatile, or cheapest or..... It is just my favorite.
