Looks to me, you need to study:
    1. A book of naval architeture
    2. A book of boat design (like Larsson & Eliasson: Principles of Yacht Design)
    3. A book of sailing catamarans (like Harvey: Multihulls for Cruising and Racing)
    4. EU:s Recreational Craft Directive

There are no shortcuts, really. Some doubts can arise if one states the japanese saw an excellent tool, but has probably newer sawn the wood. Still, happy studying!

Thank you for your advice. Any advice on where I can find information on a Japanese saw?

Home Depot and Lowe's sell them in the U.S., so your local hardware store probably sells them, also. They cut on the pull, not the push, are very thin and very sharp. Check out homedepot.com

Whoa! I didn't realize it can be that expensive... Thanx hoytedow!!!
I think I will stick with the Finnish saw for now. It cuts all North American hardwood like a hot knife cuts butter.
